Kyle Friesenhahn was hired as the head diving coach in June 2024.
In 2025-26, Friesenhahn's divers made history during the America East Championship with a male placing fourth in the one-meter, the highest placement in the America East era, and had a female become the first woman diver since 2023 to place in the top eight.
In his first year, Friesenhahn changed the perspective of VMI diving during the 2024-25 campaign. Friesenhahn coached an America East Diver of the Week, and led the first female Rat diver to a top-10 finish at a conference championship in team history, and the first female VMI diver to place in the top 16 in both one- and three-meter diving events as a freshman.
Friesenhahn comes to the Institute after spending 10 years as the Head Diving Coach and Assistant Swimming Coach at Delta State University. Since 2013, Friesenhahn has coached 48 NCAA Division II National Qualifiers and was named NSISC Men’s Diving Coach of the Year six times, earning the feat the last three seasons.
