Biography

Enjoyed a breakout campaign as a sophomore, setting new school records for strikeouts and innings pitched...Will open the 2008 season as the team’s Friday starter...Named to the Preseason Wallace Award Watch List.

2007: Came into his own, leading the team in starts (16), strikeouts (110), innings (99.0), opposing batting average (.235), and combined shutouts (3)...Broke VMI’s single-season strikeout mark set by Percy Sensabaugh in 1964...Twice allowed only one hit in a start, going seven innings against Maryland-Eastern Shore (3/10) and 6.1 innings against Coppin State (4/13)...Set a career-high by striking out ten without walking a batter against Charleston Southern (3/17)... Pitched his first career complete game against Winthrop (3/24), taking the loss while allowing only four runs...Also took a hard-luck loss against #20 Coastal Carolina, allowing two earned runs in six innings...Took a no decision when allowing four runs over eight innings in a come-from-behind, 5-4 win over UNCA (4/27)...Took second-straight no-decision by allowing three runs in six innings at Radford (5/11), striking out eight...Took a hard-luck loss in his final regular-season outing, allowing one earned run over seven innings, striking out eight against Liberty (5/18)...Allowed only two runs over eight innings in the Big South Championship against Liberty (5/23), striking out eight while leaving with a 3-2 lead before a Liberty ninth-inning comeback...The Keydets went 9-7 in his 16 starts.
Summer: Went 4-1 in 10 starts for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League...Had a 3.23 ERA in 55.2 innings, striking out 55 batters while walking only 12...Opposing batters hit only .245...Earned the win in the CPL All-Star Game, working a perfect fifth inning...Helped lead the Pilots to the CPL Championship Game.

2006: Made seven starts and four relief appearances in his first season with the Keydets...Went 4-2 with a 4.67 ERA, striking out 17 while walking 19 in 34.2 innings of work...Started four Big South games, going 1-1...Made his first career start at Richmond (2/28), as he and fellow freshman John Phelps combined to blank the Spiders 6-0...Posted career-long outings of 5.2 innings at High Point (4/8) and vs. #16 Winthrop (5/21)... Against WU, allowed only one earned run while striking out four in the series-clinching win...Struck out five vs. Coppin State (2/17).
Summer: Helped lead the Staunton (Va.) Braves to a runner-up finish in the Valley League...Pitched a five-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks in Game 4 of the Valley League Finals against eventual champions Luray...Struck out 59 batters in 57 innings, making nine starts and one relief appearance...Tallied a 4.11 ERA and .234 opponents’ batting average...Posted a 1-5 record.
