Alex Haitsuka's Career Statistics

2010: Second Team All-Big South honoree…also named to the league's All-Academic team…named to Johnny Bench Award watch list, an honor given to the top collegiate catcher in America…hit .348 in 2010 with a .418 on-base percentage, third among Keydets returning his year…hit for the cycle in four at-bats versus Longwood (4/6)…hit a grand slam in VMI's 7-5 win over Winthrop 5/16…went 4 for 5 with a double and five RBI against Gardner-Webb (4/11)…was three of the four base-runners allowed 3/27 when future Brewers draft pick Tyler Thornburg baffled VMI…had four hits against The Citadel ten days prior…showed drastically improved defense, dropping his passed ball total from 25 in 2009 to 11 in 2010.
    Summer: Played in 20 games for the Luray Wranglers of the Valley League, hitting .170.

2009:
Appeared in every game as a sophomore, making 48 starts behind the plate…ranked second on the team with 42 RBIs, nine home runs (tied), a .517 slugging percentage and 10 multiple-RBI games (tied)…in league play, ranked in the top five with 28 RBIs and six home runs…hit six home runs in five games at midseason, driving in 16 runs during the stretch…went 3 for 4 with two home runs and a career-best six RBIs in game one against Gardner-Webb (4/10); it was his second two-HR game in eight days…went 3 for 5 with a triple and two home runs, along with five RBIs, in game one against Liberty (4/3)…had a three-run double in game one at Charleston Southern (3/27) and a two-run single in game two vs. the Bucs (3/29)…went 2 for 5 with a walk-off, three-run home run in the 12th inning against Rider (3/6)…had a career-best seven-game hitting streak in the season’s first month, hitting .333 with six RBIs.
    Summer: Hit .247 in 39 games for the Luray Wranglers…had four doubles, a triple and three home runs, along with 16 RBIs…helped the Wranglers to a 27-20 mark and Central Division title…named to the Valley League All-Star Team.

2008:
Saw action in 31 games in all, making 21 starts behind the plate as a freshman…hit .244 with six doubles and a home run…improved as the year went continued, reaching base safely in 12 of the last 13 games that he started…threw out 12 of 36 opposing basestealers…hit his first career home run in game three against Maryland-Eastern Shore (5/11), going 1 for 3 with three RBIs…went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in game three at Liberty (4/20)…in the ninth inning against W&M (3/25), scooped out a throw by RF Sam Roberts to tag out the tying run before throwing out a runner at 2nd to end the game…made his first collegiate start in game two against Lafayette (2/23), going 2 for 2 with a run scored while throwing out a pair of runners on the base paths.

High School/Personal:
