John Garrett's Career Stats

2013: Named to the Stopper of the Year Watch List before the season...finished his senior year 3-5 with three saves and a 5.26 ERA...had 26 appearances, tied for ninth-most in the Big South and the eighth-most in VMI history...that gave him 89 appearances for his career, third-most in VMI annals...one of three players to rank in the program's career top-10 in both wins and saves, as he ranks fifth in both...finished with the sixth-highest K/9 ratio (8.24) and the third-lowest K/BB ratio in VMI history (2.05)...in his senior year, pitched a season-long three innings March 13 at William & Mary, picking up the save...closed out Connor Bach's 1-0 shutout of Longwood on March 22...also had a save against Buffalo and wins against Binghamton, VCU and Charleston Southern.

2012: Served as team's closer for much of the season...posted a 2.03 ERA in 48 2/3 innings (24 games)...recorded six saves on the year...did not allow an earned run over his first four outings, spanning eight innings, although he did take a loss in that time (five innings, one unearned run against Lafayette 2/26)...picked up his first save of the year March 9 against YSU, working four innings and giving up a run...struck out a season-high tying five batters in that game...pitched three shutout innings March 16 at UNC Asheville...closed out back to back wins over Presbyterian March 23 and 24...struck out the final batter with the tying run on second to end a win over Richmond April 3...got a save against Winthrop in his next outing, April 6...gave up the game-winning home run in the 10th against Coastal on April 15, but rebounded to pick up his first win of the year April 20 against Campbell...also won the next day, accounting for his two wins on the year...pitched two shutout innings May 1 against VCU, and then closed out the season-ending win at The Diamond May 18, inducing a double-play ground ball in the eighth and striking out the final hitter in the ninth.

2011: Appeared in 20 games, including five starts, and posted a 5.79 ERA…vultured a relief win against Bucknell on March 5…worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings at Oregon State (3/13)…threw two hitless innings against Presbyterian (3/27)…picked up the win in his first career start, beating William & May on April 13 for VMI's first win ever at Plumeri Park…got the victory in a predetermined three-inning start April 26, besting JMU 10-4…started the season finale against High Point.

2010: Had VMI's best relief numbers on the season, posting a 6-1 record and a 2.70 ERA in 19 appearances…allowed just a .215 opponent batting average…gave up just eight hits with the bases empty (8 for 55, .145 OBA)…first collegiate win came against Maryland (3/2)…earned three wins in six days during early April, winning two games at UNC Asheville and then retiring all four batters in a 3-2 win over James Madison (4/7)…closed out VMI's 12-3 win over then-#1 Virginia (4/14) with a perfect ninth, including a strikeout…earned the victory against UNC Asheville at the Big South Championship (5/25) by allowing just one run in four innings…retired15 of 16 hitters he faced in relief in opening game of doubleheader vs. Presbyterian College (5/20), picking up the victory…allowed just one run in 2.1 innings vs. #7 Coastal Carolina (4/25), striking out two…worked a scoreless ninth to claim his first collegiate save at The Citadel (3/16), striking out two and allowing one hit.
    Summer: Had a 2.43 ERA in 22 outings for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League.

High School/Personal: Two-year letterman at Maury under head coach Chris Howlett…as a senior, hit .568 with four home runs and 45 RBIs while going 5-1 on the mound with a 1.98 ERA…named Eastern District Player of the Year, First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State (AAA) as a senior…also earned First Team All-Tidewater accolades in his senior season…helped lead the Commodores to Eastern District regular season and tournament titles as a senior…as a junior, hit .428 and went 3-0 with a no-hitter to his credit…in 2008, helped Maury to both a regular season and tournament championship in the Eastern District…graduated with Honors and was a member of the National Society of High School Honors...son of Bill and Patty Garrett…played for American Legion Post 60, helping them to a third-place showing in the state championship…selected as a member of the Regional All-Star Team…majoring in economics & business.
