LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team opens a four-game road trip Wednesday with a tough non-conference game at Virginia Tech at 4 p.m. on English Field in Atlantic Union Bank Park.
Last Time:
The Keydets are coming off a record-breaking 15-4 victory Sunday against Norfolk State University that completed a three-game sweep of the Spartans. VMI broke the NCAA Division I record for most stolen bases in an inning with nine in the second frame, snapping a mark that had been on the books since the 1993 season.
VMI stole 14 bases overall Sunday to break the school record for most stolen bases in a game.
Justin Starke stole four, while
Ty Swaim,
Trey Morgan,
Zac Morris and
Addison Clark each took two. The 14 stolen bases is the most for a Division I program in a game this season.
Player of the Week:
Starke was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week for the week of March 20. He hit .571 and belted two doubles, a triple and a home run to post a 1.071 slugging percentage with six runs and eight RBI. Starke walked four times and stole four bases as well and had a .667 on base percentage.
For the season, Starke is hitting a robust .370 with eight doubles, a triple and five home runs with 23 runs scored and 24 RBI. He has a .460 on base percentage and a .679 slugging percentage and has been successful in 15 of his 17 stolen base attempts.

About the Hokies:
Virginia Tech was ranked #17 in the nation last week but fell out of the rankings after dropping a three-game series at Miami last weekend. The Hokies are 12-5 overall and 10-3 at home.
Chris Cannizzaro has paced the Virginia Tech offense thus far with a .416 batting average, 21 runs, 20 RBI, seven doubles, two triples and five home runs. Eddie Eisert has drilled six home runs to lead the team and has scored a team-best 24 runs to go with a .683 slugging percentage.
The Hokies have only made 10 errors thus far compared to 30 for their opponents.
