Men's 200 Free Relay Paces S&D on Day One at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The VMI men's team won the 200 free relay, but both the men's and women's teams trail after day one of the Liberty Duals Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The men's squad trails George Mason 140-43, while the women's team trails Liberty 155-21 and George Mason 148-26.

VMI's top finish of the day came with the win in the 200 free relay, when Jacob Smilie, Nick Palmieri, Brady Gannon and Ryan Schmitz teamed up for a 1:27.63 effort. John Kim finished second in the 100 back (51.87), and the Keydets posted a trio of third-place finishes as well.

Schmitz was third in the 50 free in 21.51 and Smilie recorded a third-place result in the 200 free (1:48.16). Finally, Thomas Muldowney was third in the 200 fly (2:05.42).

On the women's side, Morgan Davis set a new school record in the 200 fly with a 2:15.83 effort.

Prior to the meet, a brief opening ceremony was held for Liberty's new facility.

The Liberty Duals will resume Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
