BLACKSBURG, Va. - Bethany King paced the VMI women's cross country team by finishing 31st overall at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite, contested Friday in Blacksburg, Va.
King's finish marked the third straight race that she had led the VMI women's team to start the season, as she crossed the line in 23:01 over the 6K course. Logan Luckett was once again the Keydets #2 runner, as she finished 44th in 23:34, and Anna Armfield was 55th in 24:03.
"Our women competed well tonight," said VMI head coach Dr. Drew Ludtke. "We rested two of our top five ladies and will have them ready for Louisville. Bethany King had another strong showing as our top runner, as all of our top three competed at a high level. I am happy with our team progression thus far, but now we will continue to work on the entire team progressing and moving up together."
As a team, the Keydets finished 9th overall in a meet won by Florida State, with Ohio and Virginia Tech rounding out the top three.
Other finishers for the Keydets included Kathleen Yates (70th/25:01), Isabela Melendez (74th/25:15), Sadie Sandifer (84th/26:14), Christina Hill (92nd/27:20) and Brittany Szczepanik (104th/31:33).
VMI cross country will return to action on Sept. 30, when the Keydets competed at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
