VMI Water Polo Drops Two Games in Philly
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The VMI women’s water polo team dropped a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches Saturday, hosted at La Salle University.
Iona 11, VMI 10
The Keydets took an 8-7 lead into the final period, but Iona rallied for the win. Jordan Van Reeken scored the game winner with 2:46 remaining and the Gaels turned away three VMI shot attempts down the stretch to hang on.
Emma Perez led VMI with three goals, while McKenna Imset and Sarah Dolitsky each had two scores. Zoe Salafatinos, Maddie Berry and Emma Noble also scored and Isabel French had 11 saves and two steals.
Villanova 12, VMI 7
The Wildcats scored the games first four goals, but VMI cut the lead to 4-3 on two goals by Imset and one by Salafatinos. Villanova netted the next five goals to pull away.
Imset finished with four goals, and Perez and Dolitsky each had one. French and Bridget Hughes split time in net, making 10 stops.
VMI (16-11/6-7 MAAC) plays its final regular-season game of the season Sunday, facing Wagner at Villanova at 1:30 p.m. The Keydets have clinched a MAAC playoff berth, as the top four teams in the eight-team conference advance into postseason play.
