VMI Water Polo Schedule Released
LEXINGTON, Va. – The 2019 VMI women’s water polo schedule was released Tuesday by head coach Ryan Pryor. The Keydets had an outstanding season last spring with a 20-12 overall record, including an 8-6 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
The season begins in mid-February at the Mercyhurst University Laker Invitational in Erie, Pa. Two long-distance invitationals follow; the Macalester Invite (St. Paul, Minn.) and the Claremont Convergence (Claremont, Calif.).
VMI hosts all seven other MAAC schools over the weekend of March 9-10 at the Clark King Pool. VMI plays Marist (3 p.m.) and Siena (7:30 p.m.) on Saturday and St. Francis-Brooklyn (10:30 a.m.) and La Salle (4:30 p.m.) on Sunday. They are the Keydets only home matches of the season.
The tail end of the schedule is MAAC-heavy with weekend events at Wagner (March 23-24, three games), St. Francis-Brooklyn (April 6-7, four games) and La Salle (April 13-14, three matches).
“This should be a very exciting season as we look to build on the success we’ve had these past couple of years,” said head coach Ryan Pryor. “I believe the schedule this year will do a great job of testing the team and preparing us for a successful run in the MAAC. We have some change of pace in the schedule this year, traveling to Minnesota for the first time and competing in the Claremont Convergence tournament for the first time in several years. We’ll also have the great opportunity to host all eight MAAC schools for a 14-game weekend in March. That will be a great chance to play in front of the home crowd and really showcase our sport to the corps.”
The MAAC Championship Tournament is slated for April 27 and 28 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie N.Y., at the McCann Natatorium. The top four teams in the regular-season standings qualify for conference post-season competition.
