Leadoff Hitters

VMI enters Tuesday's game on a four-game win streak, a run that started with last week's 9-4 win here in Charlottesville.

The Keydets' 5-2 start is the team's best since 2014, when VMI started 7-2. That season, the Keydets also defeated an SEC school (Kentucky) and earned a win over UVA, much like what has happened this season.

Matt Dunlevy was named SoCon Player of the Week Monday after going 7-12 on the week with 14 total bases, including two home runs, and also walked four times for a startling .688 OBP. Dunlevy entered the year with a career-high of four homers in an entire season. It was the first career conference POTW award for the senior, who had three RBI in the win over UVA last week.

Nathan Eaton was also a part of last week's offensive explosion, as VMI scored eight runs in four straight games for the first time since May of 2014. Eaton hit for the cycle in Friday's season opener against Lafayette, going 5 for 5 and becoming the first Keydet to hit for the cycle since Matt Pita did it in May of 2016. Eaton also became the first Keydet with five hits in a game since 2015 and the first VMI player to steal home since that season as well, after doing it on the back end of a double steal.

Next Time Out

Following Tuesday's action, the Keydets return to action Friday when they take on Oakland at Gray-Minor Stadium. The three-game series begins that day at 3 p.m.
