BLACKSBURG, Va. - VMI's Josh Winder and Tyler Tharp have been named Second Team All-State honorees, according to information released by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) Friday. It is the first such honor in the career of both players, and it is the first time since 2010 that VMI has put more than one player on the all-state squad.

Winder comes off a season in which he earned Second Team All-SoCon and SoCon All-Tournament team honors after going 7-6 with a 3.59 ERA. He finished the year in the top-30 in Division I in strikeout/walk ratio, complete games and strikeouts and set new school records in single season innings pitched and strikeouts. Off the field, he was named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week three times and earned Academic All-District and VaSID All-Academic honors as well.

Tharp, meanwhile, was a first team all-conference honoree after hitting .348 with 16 homers, tied for the third-most homers in school history. Tharp set a new single season school record for total bases while leading the SoCon in slugging percentage, ranking fourth in on-base percentage and sitting 10th in batting average.

The VaSID announcement concludes the regional baseball seasonal awards, and the full team is accessible to the left of this article. The 2018 VMI baseball schedule will be announced this fall.
