LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking to advance to the Southern Conference tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, the No. 10 seed VMI women’s soccer team travels to No. 2 seed UNCG to face the Spartans in a quarterfinal match Saturday at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Keydets (7-8-2, 0-8-1) are coming off a 1-0 victory over No. 7 seed Chattanooga on Wednesday night, a game in which senior Amber Levy scored her second career goal in the 14th minute of the match for her first career game-winning goal.
After opening conference play with an 0-8 record, the Keydets have been on the rise recently as the fell to No. 1 seed Samford by a 2-1 score last weekend, tied Chattanooga 2-2 last Sunday and turned around to beat the Mocs Wednesday night on the road to begin the tournament.
Sierra Brewer continues to lead the Keydets with five goals on the season while Kiley Cropper is close behind with four. Julianne Knoblett, Blake Cashin and Sam Franklin have three of their own.
About the Spartans (12-4-1, 7-2 SoCon)
UNCG opened league play with a 4-0 victory over the Keydets back on September 21 and reeled off five consecutive SoCon wins before falling to ETSU by a 2-1 score on Oct. 14. The only other conference loss for the Spartans came at the hands of No. 1 seed Samford this past Sunday by a 1-0 tally.
The Spartans have topped Chattanooga, WCU, Wofford, Furman, Mercer, The Citadel and VMI in league play and look to continue the momentum versus the No. 10 Keydets Saturday.
Cienna Rideout has 12 goals for the season to lead the team, double the amount that Nicole Souply had with six as the second leading scorer for the year. Hita Quiqui, Kaley Tucker and Caroline Fiorella each have three for the season.
