LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior Olivia Cotton and senior Amy Horney will serve as this year's women's soccer team captains, according to information released by the program Sunday.
Cotton was, due to injury, limited to 11 games as a sophomore. She did score her lone goal of the year Sept. 9 against Campbell. As a true freshman in 2015, she had 14 points, tying for the fourth-most points by a freshman in program history. She was also just the seventh VMI freshman ever with two game-winners in a season.
Horney, meanwhile, enters her senior year on quite a streak. She has started all 60 matches of her career thus far, and is on pace to break the program's all-time record for starts in October 20's game against The Citadel. She would also, by season's end, set the VMI record for total games played. Horney added to her resume last year by scoring three goals and an assist, after having entered the year with just one career point.
VMI women's soccer opens its regular season August 18, when the team plays host to UNC Asheville at 5 p.m. at Patchin Field.
