GREENSBORO, N.C. - A 70th-minute goal by Regan Lehman broke a scoreless tie and sent the UNCG Spartans past the VMI Keydets, 1-0, in SoCon women's soccer action Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

After the teams had battled through the first 69-plus minutes, Cienna Rideout played a ball back to Lehman 20 yards out. She put the resulting shot past VMI (5-10-1, 2-4-1 SoCon) goalkeeper Ceci Keppeler for the only goal of the contest.

Keppeler made four saves in the first 22:27 to keep the match scoreless early, and the contest went to halftime scoreless. After UNCG (6-7-3, 3-2-2 SoCon) broke through with Lehman's goal, VMI put pressure on the UNCG back line, but Spartan keeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper stopped a Sierra Brewer shot in the 79th minute to preserve the shutout.

"I'm proud of the way we battled today," said VMI head coach Chris Bergmann. "We had chances to score and couldn't break through, while UNCG was able to finish an opportunity with Lehman's goal. We look forward to finishing out our season at home and getting ready for the conference tournament."

In the UNCG victory, the Spartans outshot VMI 15-7. VMI had five of the match's nine corner kicks, while Keppeler was credited with eight saves.

VMI women's soccer will return to action Friday, when the Keydets play host to The Citadel at 4 p.m.
