VMI basketball returns home to face the Western Carolina Catamounts in a SoCon contest Thursday night at Cameron Hall. A lackluster first half performance by the VMI basketball team allowed the host UNCG Spartans to build a 41-18 lead at the half and eventual 73-51 victory over the Keydets Thursday night at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
UNCG proved dominant in several key factors including outscoring the Keydets in the paint, 28-16, scoring 20 points off VMI turnovers and registering 27 points off the bench to VMI’s six. Austin Vereen led VMI with 14 points on 5-14 shooting from the field and converted four three-pointers. Freshman Bubba Parham contributed 13 points by going 5-7 from the field while sophomore center Tyler Creammer also scored in double digits with 10 points on four buckets.
Last Meeting with Western Carolina (1/15/2018):
VMI freshman guard Bubba Parham scored 20 points and sophomore Keith Smith added 18 points, but a Keydet rally fell short to Western Carolina, 65-58, Monday night - Jan. 15 - at Ramsey Center.
The Catamounts placed four in double figures and were led by forward Marc Gosselin with 16 points while junior transfer Mike Amius added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
A VMI win against WCU would:
