LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI senior guard QJ Peterson (Hedgesville, W.Va.) was named to both All-Southern Conference postseason basketball squads as announced by the league office in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Wednesday.
Peterson was named first team All-SoCon as selected by the league media and was a second team selection on the coaches voting.
It marked the second straight year that Peterson had landed first team honors on the media All-Conference squad.
Peterson leads the SoCon in scoring with a 19.4 per game average. Earlier this season, he became the sixth player to surpass the career 2,000 point mark and now has 2,174 for the #4 spot on VMI all-time list. Peterson also has 11 games this year with 20 or more points including a season-high 40 points in VMI’s 80-64 win at Chattanooga January 25. He also leads the team in rebounding with a 6.4 average that ranks 10th in the league and also paces the team in assists (70) and steals (43).
VMI plays Samford in the first round of the 2017 Southern Conference Basketball Tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C.
