HARRISONBURG, Va. - VMI football's Ryan Francis and Greg Sanders were named to the 2016 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Football Second Team, according to information released by the organization last week. Linebacker Francis accomplishes the feat after being named First Team All-SoCon (media) and Second Team (Coaches), while Sanders was voted to the Media's second team for postseason conference awards.

Francis ranked third in the SoCon in three different categories: tackles/game (9.6), sacks per game (6.0-total) and tackles for loss/game (13.5 total/1.35 game). The redshirt junior led VMI in tackles in five of his 10 game. He posted a career-high 4.5 tackles for loss vs. ETSU Oct. 8 and had three consecutive double-digit tackle games (16-10-12) with a combined 9.5 TFL/44 yards including 5 sacks/35 yards. He then posted another three-game string of double digit tackles later in the season (10-10-11).

Sanders started all 11 games to extend starting streak to 22 contests. He led VMI defensive backs with 68 tackles which included 4.5 for-loss and posted double-digit tackle games against Western Carolina (13) and Morehead State (10). Sanders intercepted passes against Bucknell (returned 34 yards) and Wofford, and broke up five passes on the season. He forced fumbles against Mercer, Western Carolina, and forced a fumble in season finale against The Citadel which he recovered.
