LEXINGTON, Va. - Swimmer Kodiak Bowers and cross country's Tammy Cheung have been named the VMI Athletes of the Week, for the time period ending Oct. 19.
Bowers captured the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.82 during the Keydets' season opener, contested this past Saturday at N.C. State. He also was on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, as the freshman got his VMI career off to a strong start.
Cheung continued to solidify her standing as a top threat in the conference, as she finished 24th at the Blue Ridge Open on Friday. Her 5K time of 18:26 was a personal best by some 32 seconds, and sends her into Oct. 30's Big South Championships on a positive note.
VMI swimming and diving will return to action Oct. 29-30, taking part in a quad meet in Emmittsburg, Md., while both cross country teams are next in action on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Big South Championships, hosted by Radford in Blacksburg, Va.
