LEXINGTON, Va. - The Keydet basketball team has been named the VMI Athletes of the Week, for the time period ending March 5.
This past week, the Keydets came from the first round of the conference tournament all the way through the bracket, making a thrilling run into the title game before falling to top-seeded UNC Asheville.
Along the way, the team beat Radford 55-53, a game that was the lowest scoring winning contest under head coach Duggar Baucom. They then beat rival Coastal Carolina, a game that snapped an eight-game losing skid to the Chanticleers, before routing Winthrop to reach the title contest. It was VMI's third conference final appearance in six years.
