LEXINGTON, Va. – After a month in which the Keydets participated in three separate open tournaments, the VMI wrestling team returns to dual action with a non-conference matchup with Franklin & Marshall set for Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cormack Hall.
The Keydets (0-1) opened the season back on Nov. 4 with a 37-7 loss in a home dual against SoCon power Chattanooga. Over the past few weeks, the several Keydets have competed at the Hokie Open and most recently the Keystone Classic on Nov. 19 during the Thanksgiving Furlough.
At the Keystone Classic, juniors Stevan Smith and Blake Hohman and senior Taylor Thomas all picked up two wins before they were eliminated in the tournament hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
In the loss against Chattanooga a month ago, sophomore 157-pounder Robert DuPont earned a decision victory while senior 133-pounder Hunter Starner logged a major decision over his opponent.
In the dual at Franklin & Marshall last season, a 30-19 loss for VMI, the Diplomats won six of 10 bouts including three pins and a technical fall.
