LEXINGTON, Va. – Ready for a new season and new beginnings under interim head coach Richard Lavorato, the VMI wrestling team hosts Southern Conference foe Chattanooga Saturday before traveling to Roanoke for the Hokie Open all day Sunday.

The dual Saturday at 1 p.m. at VMI’s Cormack Hall marks the season opener for both the Keydets and the Mocs, who decided to hold the conference match earlier than usual to accommodate both teams’ participation in the Hokie Open the following day. The Hokie Open tournament, hosted by Virginia Tech, will take place at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia, and run all day Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Full coverage and results from the Hokie Open can be found at the Hokie Open Wrestling Tournament home page.

Although the Keydets return SoCon All-Freshman team honorees Cade Kiely and Chris Beck from last season, VMI will see several new faces on the mat this season with the departure of graduated seniors Dalton Henderson and Shabaka Johns. Senior 133-pounder Hunter Starner and senior 197-pounder Taylor Thomas have been chosen as this year’s team captains.

About the Mocs (0-0)
