ASHLAND, Va. - Six Keydets were among the 223 student-athletes recognized as part of the 2016-17 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team, which was released recently by the organization. The honorees were nominated by the school's sports information personnel and were required to have GPA's of 3.25 or higher, as well as a sophomore or later standing.
The Keydet honorees, led by baseball's ace pitcher, Josh Winder, came from six different sports and all had GPA's of 3.41 or higher. Winder, a multi-time SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week this past year, will carry a 4.0 into his junior year this coming fall.
He was joined by Bethany King of the women's track and field and cross country teams, as well as men's distance Brandon White. Football's Ryan Francis, water polo's Bailey Huddleston and rifle's Rachel Jankelow rounded out the Keydets who were recognized.
