BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe finished second in the 100 meter hurdles and Kerisha Goode was third in the 100 meter dash, helping the VMI women's track and field to a fifth-place finish in the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which wrapped up Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

Agyepong-Wiafe finished second in the 100 hurdles for the second straight conference championship, as she crossed the line in 13.94 seconds. She also came back for a ninth-place finish in the 100 in 12.33 seconds.

Goode, meanwhile, ran her second straight race under 12 seconds in the 100 with an 11.79, third-place effort. She finished fifth in the 200 as well, where she crossed the line in 24.73 seconds.

The Keydets finished fifth with 66 points, 23 behind ETSU's 89 markers. The point total was the second-most that the program had ever scored at an outdoor championship, trailing only the 75 points scored at the 2015 SoCon Outdoor Championships.

Samford won the women's title with 245 points to Western Carolina's 194. Furman was third with 109, while Wofford (44), Mercer (26), The Citadel (24), UNCG (11) and Chattanooga (4) rounded out the team standings.

Mia McClain was also a standout for the Keydets, as she was sixth in both the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.95). Both of the times were personal best efforts. McClain, Goode and Agyepong-Wiafe teamed with Bria Anderson for a second-place finish in the 4X100-meter relay as well, as the foursome timed in at 46.48 seconds.

In addition, Brenea Thomas was sixth in the heptathlon with 3,913 points. The mark was just 49 points off the school record in the event.

"I was proud of the effort our team put forth today," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "Our squad got through a lot of schedule changes, rain delays and other adversity to record one of the best results we've had at a conference meet."

The VMI women's track and field will now wait to see if any of their times or marks are among the top-48 declared athletes for the NCAA East Regional Championships, which will be held May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky.
