JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Three school record performances and an all-conference finish by Tiffany Quick in the shot put helped VMI women's track and field to a fourth-place standing after day one at the SoCon Indoor Championships, contested Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn.

Quick was VMI's top individual finisher, as she recorded the first all-SoCon honor of her career with her third place finish in the shot, thanks to her 12.79 meter effort (41'11 1/2").

Two other Keydets also wrapped up events Saturday with notable results, and one did it in a school record effort. Julia Logan finished fifth in the pentathlon with a new Keydet best of 3,152 points. Meanwhile, Bria Anderson was fourth in the long jump at 5.69 meters (18'8") and Bethany King, Julianne Knoblett, Christina Hill and Logan Luckett teamed up to finish fourth in the women's DMR with a time of 12:31.54.

As a team, the Keydets scored 20 points on the opening day of the two-day meet. VMI is two points ahead of ETSU (18) and seven up on Wofford (13), while trailing Samford (58), Western Carolina (52) and Furman (30). Chattanooga (3) and The Citadel (1) bring up the rear.

The other two school records came in preliminaries, one of which was the 60-meter dash. Kerisha Goode qualified to tomorrow's final and lowered her own school record in the process, as she crossed the line in 7.65 seconds. Goode advanced in the 200 as well (25.07).

Looking again at the 60-meters, Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe advanced as the #7 qualifier doing so in 7.72, and came back to break her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles. She finished that event in 8.57 seconds, cutting nearly a tenth of a second off the record she set last season.

The other Keydet to move on to tomorrow's finals was Hill, who posted the seventh-fastest time in the 800 - 2:18.64 - to move on.

"We had a great day today," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "To set three school records and get an all-conference finish from Tiffany Quick is a good first day, and we believe that with the qualifications we had to tomorrow's finals, we can finish strong on Sunday."

VMI women's track and field returns to action Sunday, when the SoCon Championships begins their final day of competition. Action gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
