Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Seasons at ECAC Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - David Turbyfill finishes 12th in the 1650 free and set a new 1000 free school record in the process, while Bret Tomajczyk set a new 100 breast record and Natalie Rivas did the same in the 100 free as the VMI swimming and diving teams wrapped up their seasons on the final day of the ECAC Championships, contested Sunday in Annapolis, Md.

Turbyfill touched the wall in the 1650 free with a time of 16:45.41, and his 1000 split of 10:01.85 broke the school record in that event. Tomajczyk timed in at 59.57 in a morning time trial to set his mark.

Other results on the men's side included John Kim finishing 14th in the 200 back (1:54.42) and Jacob Smilie placing 16th (1:55.73) in that event, while the 400 free relay of Niko Nemceff, Brady Gannon, John Armellino and Ryan Schmitz was 11th in 3:10.48.

Another record to fall was the men's 100 free freshman record, which was broken by Nemceff with a time of 46.74 and a 25th-place finish.

On the women's side, the 100 free record fell twice, as McKenzie Raber timed in at 54.95 (36th place) one heat before Rivas, who touched the wall in 54.83 to finish 35th.

As a team, the VMI men finished 13th with 73 points, just behind Loyola and ahead of Saint Francis (Pa.), Mount St. Mary's and Towson. The women were 15th with 18 points.
