LYNCHBURG, Va. - John Kim and Morgan Davis set school records to lead the VMI swimming and diving teams at the Liberty Duals, contested Saturday at the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Va.
Kim reset both of his school records in the backstroke events, as he posted a 51.40 opening leg on the 400 medley relay to set the new 100 back mark. Later on in the 200 back, he timed in at 1:52.83 to finish second and break the 1:53 barrier for the first time. Kim is now ranked third in the America East in the 100 back and fourth in the 200.
Davis, meanwhile, broke the school record in the 100 fly, marking the second straight day she broke a VMI mark. Davis touched the wall in 1:00.23.
Both the men's team and women's teams came out on the short end of the cumulative scoring, as the men (1-10) lost the dual to George Mason (277-72) and the women (0-13) fell to Liberty (290-44) and to Mason (270-54).
Other podium finishes for VMI Saturday included Thomas Muldowney in the men's 1000 free (10:22.11) and McKenzie Raber in the women's 1000 free (11:11.47). On the men's side, the Keydets also posted a third-place finish in the 400 free relay, a 3:16.88 time executed by Kim, Nick Palmieri, Brady Gannon and Ryan Schmitz.
VMI swimming and diving will return to action Feb. 13, when the America East Championships open in Worcester, Mass.
