VMI Men’s Soccer finishes Regular-Season at Mercer

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s soccer team travels to Mercer University (Macon, Ga.) Saturday for its final game of the 2019 regular-season at 5 p.m.

The Southern Conference contest will help determine the seedings for the upcoming conference tournament, starting on Tuesday. VMI will land the #7 seed and travel either to Belmont University or back to Mercer. Full details will be released by the conference office, including matchups and game times, this weekend.    

Keydet sophomore goalkeeper Broden Schull leads NCAA Division I with 6.93 saves per game on the season. He has 105 stops on the year and has a save percentage of .709.

Sophomore Brandon Hornung and freshman Anderson Velazquez each have three goals on the year. Freshman Nathan Lam has a goal and two assists while junior Richard Quispe has recorded a goal and an assist. Senior Cooper Duplantis and Fabian Munoz-Velasquez each have scored this season and freshmen Michael Ogenyi and Nadim Lissa each have two assists.

Mercer is 10-6 on the season and 2-3 in SoCon action. Trevor Martineau leads the conference with 25 points, and is also first in goals (8) and assists (9). Dawson Gideon has compiled four goals and two assists in 2019.
