Daniel Whitehead is an assistant athletic communications director at VMI where he serves as the media relations liaison for men’s soccer, wrestling, rifle, men’s lacrosse and women’s water polo.
Added to the athletic communications staff in March 2015, Whitehead comes to the Institute from nearby Southern Virginia University where he oversaw the media relations and stat-keeping efforts for the Knights’ 15 varsity programs since the summer of 2013.
Before Southern Virginia, Whitehead spent the 2012-13 academic year as an athletics media relations graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming, where he was the primary media contact for the women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.
Prior to Wyoming, Whitehead attended graduate school at West Virginia University where he earned a dual Master of Business Administration and Master of Sport Management degree from 2010-12. In addition to his studies at West Virginia, Whitehead also served as a sports information graduate assistant with WVU Sports Communications where he was the primary media contact for the wrestling program as well as the women’s cross country and track and field teams.
Whitehead graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations. During his final two years in Provo, he was a student assistant in the BYU Athletic Communications office where he was the primary media contact for the men’s and women’s golf and cross country teams.
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Whitehead served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina from 2004-06.
Daniel and his wife, Bethany, reside in Buena Vista with their three sons Noah, Holden and Wesley and golden doodle Luka.
