Dr. George D. Henning is a native of Roanoke and graduate of VMI. Dr. Henning joined Roanoke Orthopedic Center (now Carilion Clinic Orthopedics, Postal Drive) in 1972. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Medical Corps and received the Army Commendation Medal in 1966 after serving in Vietnam. He went on to complete his general and orthopedic surgery training at Vanderbilt and became Board Certified in 1973.
His practice includes nearly every aspect of orthopedics including joint replacement, sports medicine, and fracture management. Dr. Henning is the team physician for the Virginia Military Institute and also conducts clinics at Catawba Hospital and Bedford Community Hospital.
He is a member of the Virginia Orthopedic Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Henning holds academic appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Virginia and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Virginia Tech/Carilion School of Medicine.
Dr. Henning is a member of the VMI Sports Hall of Fame, class of 2009.
