Water Polo Drops Two in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The VMI women’s water polo team dropped a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches Sunday, hosted by Brooklyn St. Francis. The Keydets had won both of their games Saturday at the same venue.
#21 Marist 16, VMI 6
Marist took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter, but VMI scored five of the game’s next eight goals to cut the advantage to 9-5. A 5-0 Marist surge in the fourth quarter put the contest away.
Red-shirt freshman McKenna Imset had two goals and an assist for the Keydets. Sarah Dolitsky posted a goal and an assist and Kiara Anguiano, Genevieve Petrassi and Emma Noble also scored, while Makenna Moore and Emma Perez had assists. Isabel French made 12 saves and had two steals.
Grace Doerfler scored four times for #21st-ranked Marist.
St. Francis-Brooklyn 9, VMI 7
The hosts opened a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter before the VMI offense came to life. Three-straight goals in just over a minute made the score 6-5, but the Keydets couldn’t get over the hump as the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
Noble had three goals and two assists. Perez had a goal and an assist and Petrassi, Caroline Wojtas and Imset each found the back of the net. French made 12 saves.
VMI (16-9/6-5 MAAC) will travel to Philadelphia next weekend for three more MAAC games to conclude the regular season.
