VMI Water Polo Stays Unbeaten at Laker Invite
ERIE, Pa. – Red-shirt freshman McKenna Imset scored 12 times and tied a school record as the VMI women’s water polo team won two matches Saturday at the Laker Invitational, defeating Gannon University (15-14) and St. Francis University of Pa. (14-12). The Keydets are now 3-0 on the season, all matches at the Laker Invite, hosted by Mercyhurst University.
Imset scored seven times in the victory against St. Francis, tying the school record for most goals in a match. She joins three former Keydets that share the mark.
VMI 15, Gannon 14
VMI took a 12-10 advantage after three quarters, and the teams traded goals the entire fourth quarter. Imset scored with 41 seconds left to give the Keydets a 16-14 cushion that allowed them to withstand a Gannon tally with 16 seconds on the game clock.
The Keydets rattled home five-straight goals over a span stretching over late the second quarter into the third quarter, from five different goal scorers.
Imset finished with five goals against the Golden Knights, Sarah Dolitsky and Emma Perez each posted a hat trick and Caroline Wojtas scored twice and had three assists. Isabel French made 13 saves.
VMI 14, St. Francis (Pa.) 12
Imset led the way with seven goals and three assists against St. Francis, and Dolitsky had six scores and four steals. Wojtas had a goal, three assists and two steals. French made seven stops, and added two steals and an assist.
VMI will conclude the Laker Invite Sunday with matches against Bucknell University (10 a.m.) and Mercyhurst (3:30 p.m.)
