ResultsCHARLESTON, S.C. – Continuing preparations for the SoCon Championships in early March, the VMI rifle teams had solid performances Saturday at the Inouye Marksmanship Center hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Keydet men’s team earned 4485 aggregate points (2216 smallbore, 2269 air rifle) to place third and the VMI women took fourth with 4408 combined points (2150 smallbore, 2258 air rifle). The Citadel men took first with 4575 points while Georgia Southern came in second with 4545 points. Both VMI teams defeated The Citadel women, which placed fifth with 4256 points.
Senior John Pitman led the men in the smallbore with a seventh-place finish with 559 points just ahead of Simon Krauthamer’s eighth-place mark of 556 points. Nick Reynolds (9th, 551) and Hunter Jacob (10th, 550) also scored team points.
Kelia Aardema led the VMI women’s smallbore with an 11th-place finish with 547 and was trailed by Samantha Reid’s 14th-place mark of 543. Jessica Hankin came in 17th with 538 points followed by Claire Lee also logging team points with 522 points for 20th place.
Hunter Jacob led the VMI men in the air rifle with his eighth-place finish of 573 points followed by Pitman’s 571 for 10th place. Reynolds (12th, 569) and freshman Jason Gardner (19th, 556) also registered points for the team.
Reid led the VMI women in the air rifle event by scoring 572 points for ninth place overall. Aardema came in 14th with 565 points while Sabrina Bell placed 15th overall with 565 points. Savanah Diamond also tallied team points with her 532 points for 28th place in the field.
