North Georgia Tops VMI at Home Rifle Match

LEXINGTON, Va. – Following a few weeks away from competition, the VMI rifle teams returned to action at home on Parents Weekend by hosting North Georgia.  The Nighthawks came away victorious with 4568 aggregate points to top the VMI men (4466) and the VMI women (4324) Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall. 

The VMI men scored a 2211 in the smallbore and a 2255 air rifle tally en route to the 4466 total while the women scored a 2101 smallbore and 2223 air rifle to yield the 4324 tally.

Hunter Jacob led the men in the smallbore with a fifth-place score of 560 while Kelia Aardema led the women with an eighth-place finish with 555 points. Jon Pitman came in ninth place for the category with his 554 and Nick Reynolds followed with a 551. William Davidson (11th, 546) and Jacob Lagace (12th, 532) also performed well in the smallbore.

Jacob also led the team in the air rifle by placing seventh overall with a 567 score while Aardema again led the women with a 564 for the event. Reynolds came in 10th in the air rifle with a 564 score and Jamie Foster finished close behind in 11th place with her 563. Simon Krauthamer (12th, 563) and John Pitman  (13th, 561) also competed well for the men’s team.

The Keydets return to action next Saturday at home when they take on nationally ranked TCU. Action begins at 8 a.m. at Kilbourne Hall.
