LEXINGTON, Va. – Competing in their second home match of the season, the VMI rifle teams competed well against Morehead State and Georgia Southern Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall.
Morehead State took the top honors with a 4612 aggregate score (2284 smallbore, 2328 air rifle) followed by Georgia Southern’s 4529 (2211 smallbore, 2318 air rifle). The VMI mixed team placed third with a 4482 aggregate (2217 smallbore, 2265 air rifle) trailed by the VMI women’s team score of 4373 (2137 smallbore, 2236 air rifle).
Mixed team member Samantha Alexander led the way in both the air rifle and the smallbore, scoring a 569 in the air rifle and a career-high 562 in the smallbore. William Davidson and Chris Milliken both scored a 566 air rifle while Nick Reynolds also logged team points with a 564 air rifle.
John Pitman had the second highest smallbore score for the mixed team with a 554 followed by Davidson’s 552. Reynolds again was the fourth team scorer as he registered a 549 for the smallbore event.
Sabrina Bell paced the VMI women in the air rifle with her 563 score with Kaitlyn Morrison close behind with a career-best 560. Kerrie Lightfoot (559) and Katherine Watson (554) also scored team points for the women’s air rifle.
In the women’s smallbore, Tze Ting (Alice) Chiu led the way for VMI with a 544 followed by Watson’s 543. Sophomore Kelia Aardema came in third for the women’s smallbore with a 534 while Loyce Lightfoot also earned team points with her 516 for the category.
Seth Baker of Morehead State led all participants in the smallbore with his 574 while teammate Ryan Hinson scored a 589 in the air rifle for the best score of the day.
The Keydets have a few weeks off before returning to the range on October 27 at Morehead State.
