Keydets Dominate Wednesday's Swimming Action

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The VMI swimming and diving teams swept a meet against Ferrum and Sweet Briar Colleges in an event held Wednesday night in Sweet Briar, Va. The VMI men (4-1) defeated Ferrum, 125-42, and the Keydet women (2-2) prevailed over Sweet Briar (96-76) and Ferrum (103-65).

On the men's side, the Keydets dominated Ferrum by winning the first nine events before exhibitioning the final two contests. Ryan Schmitz and David Turbyfill, two freshmen, headlined the night for the Keydets. Schmitz won both the 50-meter freestyle (24.94) and the 100 free (55.10) and Turbyfill prevailed in both the 400 free (4:23.07) and 800 free (9:04.84).

Jarred Nagle (200 IM), JT Lancaster (100 fly), John Kim (100 back) and Matt Johnson (200 free) were the other individual victors.

On the women's side, it was Natalie Rivas (50/100 free) and McKenzie Raber (400/800 free) who were the double winners. Morgan Davis took the 200 free in 2:20.97, while Calle Biles prevailed in the 100 fly (1:13.66).

VMI swimming and diving will return to action Saturday, when both the Keydet men and women face Binghamton and Colgate in Binghamton, N.Y.
