
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Hoping to finish the 2018 calendar year with a strong performance, the VMI men’s rifle team lived up to the billing with a 4417-4398 victory over host Wofford in Southern Conference action Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Junior Nick Reynolds led the Keydets with a second-place finish in the smallbore by scoring a 553 and was trailed closely by senior John Pitman, who logged a 546. William Davidson and Jacob Lagace also scored team points with respective smallbore scores of 540 and 536, while freshman Simon Krauthamer participated and tallied a 503 for the day.
In the air rifle, junior Hunter Jacob paced the Keydets with a 567 for the event and Pitman was right behind with a 566 for the second-best score for VMI. Krauthamer came in fourth overall with a 555 and fellow freshman Jason Gardner also scored team points with a 554. Reynolds participated and shot a 542 for the event.
Wofford’s Daniel Wesson won the overall field by placing first in both the smallbore and the air rifle, claiming a 560 smallbore tally and a 572 in the air rifle for an 1132 aggregate.
The Keydets will take the remainder of the semester off to focus on finals and refresh over Christmas Furlough. VMI returns to the range with a home match at Kilbourne Hall versus Morehead State slated for Saturday, Jan. 19, at 8 a.m.
