Men's Rifle Competes with Trio of Teams at Home

LEXINGTON, Va. – A day after the women’s team competed on its own, the VMI mixed rifle squad competed well against Air Force, Akron and Navy by itself Sunday at Kilbourne Hall in Lexington.

The Keydets posted an aggregate score of 4465 but fell to first place Air Force (4691), Akron (4638) and Navy (4624). 

VMI junior John Pitman earned a personal best smallbore score of 568 to highlight the competition for the Keydets. Samantha Alexander scored the second best VMI smallbore of the day with a 555 and was trailed by William Davidson (546) and Ben Doehler (542).

Sophomore Hunter Jacob logged a 578 in the air rifle to pave the way for the Keydets in the event while Alexander scored a 562. Davidson (561) and Nick Reynolds (553) also scored team points for the competition. 

Chris Milliken, Harrison Smith and Patrick Higgins also competed for the Keydets in the air rifle segment. 

The Keydets return to action Saturday when they host SoCon foe North Georgia at 8 a.m. at Kilbourne Hall to mark the final dual competition of the season. The SoCon Rifle Championships take place Mar. 3-4 hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
