Rifle Teams Split Home Match

LEXINGTON, Va. - Getting back into action after taking last weekend off, the VMI rifle teams split a home match against Georgia Southern and Georgia Military College Saturday at Kilbourne Hall.

Georgia Southern took top honors with an aggregate score of 4503 followed by the VMI men's team (4487) and the VMI women (4409). Georgia Military came in fourth place with a tally of 4083 points.

VMI freshman Nick Reynolds led the smallbore efforts with a 565 for the event and was followed by senior Andrew Hickey. Zach Johnson (550) and John Pitman (546) also tallied points for the men's team for the event. 

In the air rifle, freshman William Davidson scored the highest total for the men's team with a 569 while fellow freshman Chris Milliken had the second highest tally of 568. Hickey and Nick Reynolds also scored for the team with a tied score of 567, just two behind Davidson for the lead.

The VMI women's smallbore was paced by junior Alice Chiu's 551, who was followed by Loyce Lightfoot's 548 for the event. Samantha Alexander was close behind with a total of 546 points for the category.

In the women's air rifle, junior Katherine Watson led the way with a 567 while Alexander finished two behind at 565. Alice Chiu and Rachel Jankelow were the other scorers on the women's side.

The Keydets return to action next Saturday with the second of three straight home matches. VMI will face off with University of the Sciences, Penn State and North Georgia beginning at 8 a.m. at Kilbourne Hall.
