SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following a string of four consecutive home games, the VMI women’s soccer team takes to the road for five straight games beginning with Wofford Friday night at 7 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The game will be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network.
The Keydets (1-9-1, 0-2) look to return to the win column after last claiming victory on August 29 at Delaware State. VMI is coming off a tough 2-0 loss Sunday at home to rival The Citadel, a game the Keydets had several opportunities to score sail just wide of the Bulldog net or into the hands of the keeper.
VMI has four different goal scorers to this point of the season all coming from its 4-0 win over Delaware State. Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Maggie Beckman, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas were credited with those goals.
Edwards-Roberson and senior Julianne Knoblett lead the Keydets with 20 shots on the year with Maria Vargas close behind with 19 after she took five against The Citadel on Sunday. Sam Franklin and Natalie Carpenter both have 13 shot attempts on the season.
About the Terriers (3-7, 0-2 SoCon)
Wofford enters the match on a six-game losing streak falling most recently to SoCon opponents Samford and Chattanooga this past weekend. The Terriers have defeated SC State, Winthrop and Presbyterian College this season.
Katie Gilligan is the star of the team with six goals on the year while five others have one goal to this point. Gilligan also leads the team in shot attempts with 23, while Eva Dailey ranks second with 13 and Lucy Johnson third with nine. Paige Miller and Savannah Vathy are also common strikers with eight shots on the year.
Maria Mon has seen the most time in the goalbox for the Terriers as she has played 670 minutes this season with 42 saves and a 2.42 goals-against average. She owns a 2-6 record on the season.
