LEXINGTON, Va. – Taking a tough 2-0 loss to Mercer to open Southern Conference play Friday evening, the VMI women’s soccer team continues league action Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at home against rival The Citadel at Patchin Field.
The Keydets (1-8-1, 0-1) look to return to the win column after last claiming victory on August 29 at Delaware State.
VMI has four different goal scorers to this point of the season all coming from its 4-0 win over Delaware State. Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Maggie Beckman, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas were credited with those goals.
Edwards-Roberson and senior Julianne Knoblett lead the Keydets with 20 shots on the year with Maria Vargas close behind with 14. Sam Franklin and Natalie Carpenter both have 11 shot attempts to this point of the season.

The Citadel enters the match with four wins on the year after defeating Bob Jones, North Dakota, Presbyterian and Columbia International while falling to Georgia Southern, Navy and most recently a 4-2 loss to SoCon member UNCG Friday night in Greensboro.
Logan Dix leads the Bulldogs with four goals on the year while Devyn Nyhart, Hayley Long, Maria Contreras and Marie Le Gallo all have two. A multitude of other Bulldogs have solo goals so far this season. Nyhart leads the team with 20 shot attempts while Dix is close behind with 15.
Goalie Maddie Somogyi has seen the most time in the box logging 625 minutes thus far and has a goals-against average of 1.58 to go with 33 saves on the year. She owns a 2-2-2 record on the season.
