LEXINGTON, Va. – Ready for Southern Conference play, the VMI women’s soccer team will begin league action Friday afternoon when the Mercer Bears visit Lexington for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Patchin Field.
The Keydets (1-7-1, 0-0) look to return to the win column after last claiming victory on August 29 at Delaware State. VMI is coming off a 3-0 loss Sunday at home to the Flames of Liberty University.
VMI has four different goal scorers to this point of the season all coming from its 4-0 win over Delaware State. Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Maggie Beckman, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas were credited with those goals.
Edwards-Roberson leads the Keydets with 20 shots on the year with senior Julianne Knoblett close behind with 18. Vargas has taken 14 shot attempts and freshmen Beckman and Sam Fee both have seven on the year.

Mercer comes to Lexington with an excellent 8-1 start to the season with its only loss coming to No. 10 Tennessee by a 3-0 score back on Aug. 25. Since that time the Bears have recorded seven straight wins including the likes of Kennesaw State, Austin Peay, Davidson, Alabama State and Jackonville State this season.
Nicole Icen leads Mercer with five goals on the year so far while Amaya Evans has contributed four. Abigail Zoeller, Madeline Alhamra and Ally Fordham each have a pair of goals this season.
Jordyn Ebert has recorded 37 saves in the box this year as the Bears’ primary goalkeeper.
