Women's Soccer Faces American Saturday Afternoon

LEXINGTON, Va. – Coming off a 4-0 victory over Delaware State Thursday night, the VMI women’s soccer team quickly returns to the pitch to face American University Saturday at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

VMI and American battled to the end a year ago in Lexington, with VMI taking a close 1-0 victory in overtime when then junior Sam Franklin snuck the ball into the American goal. 

The Eagles started the season 2-0 with wins over UNC Asheville and USC Upstate before falling to George Washington Wednesday night in a hard-fought 2-1 defeat.  Freshman Fisayo Iluyomade leads the team with three goals on the year while Keelin Ferris and Charly Slavick each have one.

In head coach Chris Haught-Thompson’s first career victory at VMI, four different Keydets scored in a 4-0 win over Delaware State Thursday night, including Maggie Beckman, Whitney Edwards-Roberson, Kiley Cropper and Maria Vargas.

In her second complete game, VMI freshman goalie Noelle Heilpern earned her first career shutout at VMI and recorded one save to preserve the win.
