GREENVILLE, S.C. - Molly Dwyer scored twice in the first nine minutes, helping the Furman Paladins defeat the VMI Keydets, 3-0, in SoCon women's soccer action Friday night in Greenville, S.C. The match was the SoCon opener for both teams.
It took just 1:43 for Dwyer to put Furman (5-2-1, 1-0 SoCon) up, when she scored off an assist from Caitlyn Reilly. Dwyer then added on in the eighth minute off a shot from the left wing, and Virginia Poe wrapped up the scoring in the 55th minute, scoring off an assist from Rachel Shah to account for the 3- 0 victory.
In its win, Furman outshot VMI (3-7, 0-1) 25-3 and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Ceci Keppeler of VMI was credited with 11 saves, the only saves of the match.
VMI women's soccer will return to action Sunday, when the Keydets take on the Wofford Terriers in Spartanburg, S.C. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
