DeLand, Fla. - A Tyler Creammer rebound and putback to force overtime proved to be the impetus to propel VMI to victory as the Keydets would go on to defeat the host Stetson Hatters by an 87-79 score in overtime Friday afternoon at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Florida.

With the Keydets (5-2) down by three, VMI sophomore Bubba Parham was intentionally fouled with just over two seconds left in regulation to go to the free throw line. He made the first then purposefully clanked the ball off the rim on the second hoping for a VMI offensive rebound and quick putback. Creammer came through in the clutch to grab the board and lay it up to knot the score at 69 apiece just before the buzzer to force extra time.

In OT, sophomores Greg Parham and Sarju Patel converted clutch three-pointers  to rally the Keydets midway through the overtime before Myles Lewis scored a pair of free throws and breakaway steal and dunk to propel VMI to the win.  The Keydets totaled 18 points in the extra time while holding the Hatters to just 10.

Bubba Parham logged his third consecutive game with 30+ points as he finished with 30 today on 9-24 shooting including five treys. Lewis ended the game with 15 points while Greg Parham (13) and Patel (11) also scored in double figures. A close game throughout, the schools went into the halftime break tied at 35 apiece and both squads put up 34 points in the second half to yield the overtime period. The Keydets outrebounded the Hatters by a slim 48-40 margin.

Leo Goodman led the Hatter with 13 points on the day.

The Keydets return to action next Tuesday at home to face American at 7 p.m. at Cameron Hall.

Head coach Dan Earl quotes:

"I am super proud of the guys. Tyler Creammer grabbed that big offensive rebound very late and was able to put it into overtime. We were all excited on the bench and we had to calm down and get some stops. They were crunching us at the end of the game on the offensive rebounds and I thought we did a much better job of rebounding in the overtime. Really proud of the guys playing the game the right way and knocked down free throws at the end. It was good to get a road win over the holidays.
"I thought we scrapped and we need our guards to get in the mix and rebound. Credit Stetson. They played really hard and went for the O boards. They fouled Bubba late which I thought was a smart move, but we were able to get the offensive rebound off the tip.
"We're not ultra deep right now so everybody plays a role. Tragan Fahl got in the game and played a couple of minutes and helped us. Ta'Vonne Bond did the same thing. We just need everyone to affect the game positively. It was a true team effort today."
