Richards Repeats as SoCon Wrestler of the Month

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Southern conference announced Tuesday that VMI red-shirt junior Neal Richards was named the conference’s Wrestler of the Month for February. He also earned the conference’s top award for January.

Richards continued his winning ways in February. He went 4-0 in the month at 174 pounds to win his 19th-straight match, and has not lost since mid-November. Richards was 3-0 in Southern Conference action, pinning Kyle Homet of Gardner-Webb and Cooper Youngblood of The Citadel. He also scored an impressive 14-7 decision over Andrew Morgan of Campbell, who was ranked #17 at the time of the match.  

Richards is a five-time Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week selection. He boasts a 26-3 overall record with 10 pins, five technical falls and five major decisions. Richards is 6-0 in Southern Conference matches and 16-0 in dual matches.

He is ranked #16 in the latest NCAA Division I Coaches ranking, #26 in the Wrestling Ratings Percentage Index, #18 by Intermat and #16 by

The Keydets will compete this Sunday at the Southern Conference Championships, hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
