Keydets Head to Duke Invitational this Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. - Hoping to build momentum from last weekend’s performances toward the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships April 27-28, the VMI track and field teams will compete at the Duke Invitational this weekend, April 19-20, hosted by Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

 

Jahanzib Shahbaz qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championships with his times in both the 800m and the 1500m to highlight the VMI distance runners up at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University.

 

Sarah Leckman threw a 13.61m for seventh place in the shot put at the Bison Outdoor Classic, which ranks No. 2 on the SoCon list and qualifies her for the ECAC Championships.

 

At the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina, senior James Granderson earned an IC4A qualifying time in the 110m hurdles by placing seventh in the finals with a time of 14.80 seconds. He advanced to the finals by way of his fourth-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 14.86 seconds.

 

Freshman Jordin Poindexter ran a 100m dash time of 10.9 seconds to qualify for the IC4A Championships next month

 

The men’s 4x100 relay team of Chris Ferrill, Poindexter, Caleb Minus and Blaine Ashton ran an IC4A qualifying time of 41.93 for 10th overall in the field. The mark ranks third on the Southern Conference list to this point of the season.
