LYNCHBURG, Va. - Julia Logan finished 11th in the pentathlon, pacing VMI track and field on the opening day of the 2017 season at the Liberty Kickoff, contested Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The meet was the first day of collegiate competition at the Liberty Indoor Track Center, Liberty's new indoor facility.
Logan finished the competition with 2,883 points. Her best score of the day came in her top event, the high jump, where she recorded 712 points thanks to a 1.58 meter (5'2 1/4") effort.
Other results on the women's side included Tiffany Quick finishing 12th in the weight throw (13.28 M/43'7") and Elizabeth Johnston placing 13th (12.96 M/42'6 1/4").
On the men's side, Levi Whitt and Desmond Weinberg-Jones were in action on the opening day of the heptathlon. Whitt ranks 11th after the first day of competition, thanks to 2,378 points that included the third-fastest time in the 60-meter dash (7.25). Weinberg-Jones is currently in 16th place with 2,243 markers.
VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, when the Keydets wrap up action on the final day of the Liberty Kickoff. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
