Early Goal Lifts UNC-Asheville over VMI Men 1-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC-Asheville scored an early goal and made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over the VMI men’s soccer team Saturday evening in non-conference play.

Austin Howard headed in a feed from Izaiah Vignali 9:25 into the game to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.

The two teams played fairly even after the initial tally, but neither could add another marker to the scoreboard.

VMI keeper Broden Schull made two stops, while Asheville netminder Tyler Moore made one save.

UNC-Asheville (2-11-2) out-shot VMI 14-8 and the Keydets held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, with three in the second half.

VMI (1-13-1) returns to Southern Conference play Tuesday, hosting Wofford College at 4 p.m.
