Keydets Defeated on the Road at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Trying to snag its first win of the season, the VMI men's soccer team fell by a 6-0 tally to Wofford in Southern Conference action Saturday night in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Terriers (2-10, 2-2) applied constant offensive pressure on the Keydets (0-9-2, 0-4) as they outshot VMI by a 12-2 ratio in the first half and 18-0 margin in the second for 30 total shot attempts.

Wofford's Lucas Altman scored first for the Terriers in the 16th minute off an assist from Christian Womeldorph for an early 1-0 advantage. Terriers Austin Tuggle and K Sigurjonsson would add two more goals before the break to give Wofford a 3-0 lead with the second half to play.

The Terriers would go on to score three sporadic goals throughout the final 45 minutes by Ben Nickol, Daniel Mayorga and Jackson Karolczyk for the final result.

VMI freshman Willson Tuck and junior Jonathan Martinez registered the two shot attempts for the Keydets on the night. In a complete game, senior goalie Jon Harrington earned a career-high 11 saves during the match, topping the 10 he earned in the scoreless draw with Saint Joseph's last month.

The Keydets return to the pitch Tuesday with a home conference matchup with UNCG at 4 p.m. at Patchin Field.
