SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Kicking off the Southern Conference tournament with hopes of ending the year on a high note, the VMI men's soccer team fell by a 3-1 score to host No. 3-seeded Wofford Saturday night at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Terriers (12-6, 7-4) controlled the pace of the game in the first half as they outshot the Keydets (0-17, 0-11) by a 14-2 margin but were unable to net a goal until the 40th minute (39:29) when Kyle Nelson put the ball into the corner for a 1-0 Wofford advantage going in the break.

After 15 minutes going back and forth in the second half, the Terriers added another goal at the 63:02 mark when Austin Tuggle scored his third goal of the year off a cross from Charlie Heffron to increase the lead to 2-0 for Wofford. The Terriers' Nelson added an insurance goal 10 minutes later (72:07) on a free kick from Kevin Davidsson for the game's final tally.

VMI got on the board at the 84:52 mark when freshman Andrew Pope scored his first goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Sohrab Shaikh deep in the Terrier box after a scramble.

VMI was led by senior Alex Hartman's three shot attempts while Tyler Colgan and Grant Austin each logged two. Shaikh and junior David Wright were also credited with one shot apiece.

Wofford keeper Joe Wichman was given the win in 84 minutes of action while VMI goalie Robert Allen picked up the loss despite three saves on the night in a complete game.
